Speaking of dopplers..

I ordered one from Amazon last week and plan on trying it in a couple weeks. How do you know if it's your hb or the babies? The one I ordered has the digital screen that shows the bpm so should I consider it the babies if it's over a certain bpm?

Re: Speaking of dopplers..

  • I think right now I'm only finding my own because I first put the doppler to my chest/heart to listen what mine sounds like/rate it is and then when I just go a little down from my belly button and to the right I hear a hearbeat that sounds exactly the same.  If it were the baby's it should be a lot faster.

  • Loading the player...
  • You'll be able to tell-the baby's heartbeat should be around the 150's-so much much faster than yours!

  • I felt for my pulse while I was looking for it and it was waaay slower than the heartbeat I heard on the doppler.

  • Your resting heart rate should be in the 70/80s while the babies should be somewhere around 130-180...also you will be no where near your heart so the doppler shouldn't be picking up your heart rate.

I first heard my babies heart beat at 11w3d and it was right right above my pubic hair line so try really really low. Good luck

Actually dopplers frequently pick up the mother's heartbeat.   This is from the Dr. Spock website:

At times, the Doppler picks up sounds from the mother's side of the placenta and relays her heartbeat instead of the fetus'. A normal heart rate for the mother is under 100, but the baby's should be over 120, so they sound different. If there is a question, the practitioner will feel the mother's pulse and see if it's the same as what he's listening to through the Doppler instrument.

  • your Heartrate is about 82BPM, babies will be in the 130's or higher depending on gestational age ( could be lower too if you are earlier on.)
  • The baby's HB sounds like galloping horse, and is 2 times faster than yours.

  • Those that were asking how safe they were, I found this on the website I got mine from:

How safe are the Doppler's to use?

Diagnostic ultrasound is one of the safest means available for obtaining the necessary information about your unborn baby (or babies). While many tests are continually conducted by manufacturers and the U.S. government, results in the past have indicated no adverse side effects.

Your caregiver keeps up-to-date on developments in this field and is well qualified to judge the risks and benefits of any medical procedure, including ultrasound examination.

*The American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) has addressed the concerns relating to the safety of ultrasound and has issued the following statement as of March 1993: "Diagnostic ultrasound has been in use since the late 1950's." Given its known benefits and recognized efficacy for medical diagnosis, including use during human pregnancy, the AIUM herein addresses the clinical safety of such use:

"No confirmed biological effects on patients or instrument operators caused by exposure at intensities typical of present diagnostic ultrasound instruments have ever been reported. Although the possibility exists that such biological effects may be identified in the future, current data indicate that the benefits to patients of the prudent use of diagnostic ultrasound outweigh the risks, if any, that may be present." Our products use as low an ultrasound power as practical. The level of ultrasound power emitted is not adjustable. Prudent use on the mother's part would include minimizing the length of time that she listens to the baby's heartbeat on each occasion.

  • The baby will be much faster and it sounds different than your own or your blood flow. Its not something I can describe. when I use the doppler it reads 160ish for the baby, mine is usually around 70.

your way too high thats why you can't find it! Go to right above your pubic hair line, start in the center and move slowly to either side (one side at a time) and you'll find it.
