My brother needs some pants hemmed. He is very short for his age and you can't find pants to fit him without them needing to be altered. No one on my mom's side of the family knows how to sew. My mom asked my dad (they have been separated for years) if he knows anyone who would be able to hem these pants a couple months ago and he told them that he wasn't going to ask his family, but if she found someone he would pay half of the costs. His sister runs a sewing business making all sorts of things like purses and quilts and stuff.
I live in Ohio so they need to be hemmed soon since it's starting to get cold and he has no pairs that fit. I made a FB status saying "is there anyone who would be willing to hem a couple pairs of jeans for my little brother?" So now my dad is mad at me presumably because his sister is one of my FB friends, but since he won't talk to me, I am not quite sure why he is mad other than it is over this status.
Was I out of line? And another question, where can you take pants to be professionally hemmed?
Re: NBR: Was I out of line? Long and FB related
I don't get why he's mad. You were looking for anyone not SPECIFICALLY her.
Yes, also may dry cleaners also do alterations.
i don't think you were out of line...not sure what the big deal is.
I take my pants (I'm really short and need everything hemmed) to either an alterations place (google your area) or a dry cleaner. Many times there are people at the dry cleaners who can do a simple hem (mine send mine out and they come back three days later). It is usually about $10 for a basic two inch hem.
I don't think it was out of line at all...it's not like you said "I need someone to hem my brother's pants because my dad won't ask his sister to do it" or something like that, lol.
Anytime I need anything hemmed I go to a dry cleaner - most of them have people who do alterations.
Sounds like a very weird situation. I can't figure out what you did wrong there!
As for getting pants hemmed, you can ususally get it done at any dry cleaners--I pay $15 a pair for the original hem, less if you don't care about the orignal hem.
I don't think it was out of line at all. I think it's pretty shiitty that he wouldn't ask his side of the family, especially if his sister could do it, but I'm sure he has his reasons.
Check with your local dry cleaners. Nearly all of the ones around me have someone who does alterations.
I don't get why he's mad!
Any drycleaner will hem pants.
You did absolutely nothing wrong. Your Dad needs to put your brother ahead of his own pettiness.
Like PP said, most dry cleaners would be able to hem the pants.

It takes like 2 seconds to do a dang hem, what's the big deal?
