1st Trimester

I can only eat once a day..

I feel like crap in the morning and like crap in the evening so for about the past week I've only been able to eat lunch. I've already lost a few lbs and I'm worried the baby's not getting enough nurition! I'm not that big to begin with  (5'10" and a size 4) Anypne else feeling this way?

  • Is it ms?  If so have your tried ginger?  I had a friend who was basically in bed her entire 1st trimester, and lost weight if anything.  Ginger is the only thing that seemed to help her.

  • I agree, you need to eat.  At your height and weight, you'll probably need to gain a little more weight in general.  The best thing for your stomach is protein - it may seem counterintuitive, but it's the easiest for your digestive system to get down.  You need more calories than normal girl, not less!!  Feed that baby!
  • I felt like that the first time around. This time, I force myself to eat something in the morning and snack before lunch and before dinner. As long as you are taking your prenatal vitamins and eating what you can, you will be fine. It's common to lose weight in the first trimester. Believe me, you won't be able to stop eating once m/s stops!

  • Try eating bland snacks in the morning like cheerios.  It helps me.
  • im in the same boat as you and my dr told me not to worry about eating but to keep fluids in me...?

  • The baby will take nutrition from what little you eat and what's already stored in your body.  So if you're not eating much, you'll feel even more terrible/weak/nauseous b/c the baby's taking what you already have.  If you're not able to eat/drink, keep in mind that you could get dehydrated, and that's not good for either you OR the baby.  I ended up in the ER b/c I wasn't able to eat or drink much for a week and lost too much weight, which I couldn't afford to do in the first place. I'm on Zofran now and feel a lot better.

In the meantime, try baked/mashed potatoes, popcorn (minimal butter), granola bars, animal crackers, and popsicles.  These things were helpful to me before I got on meds.  I ate cheerios and saltines through tears b/c they were so nasty to me, but I was trying to force myself to eat.  GL!!!

  • Do waht you can. I went through a terrible patch of morning sickness and could only really eat lunch and then dinner was hit or miss.

The good news is this doesn't last forever.  I too am still losing weight even though my morning sickness is pretty much gone.  I'm going to talk to my doctor about it tomorrow and I'll page you to let you know what she says.

Try to eat whatever sounds good whenever it sounds good. When I was so sick I lived off bagels and cream cheese, fruit, and fruit & yogurt parfaits from McDonalds.
