PLEASE share your RTF vs Powder formula experience

sorry this is my 2nd formula post tongiht but I cannot decide if I should stop trying powders and just stick to RTF's which Lo seemed to like a little better. Im wondering if its possible for DD to not do well with a powder but do well with a RTF version of the same..

Re: PLEASE share your RTF vs Powder formula experience

  • dd will absolutley not take powder formula, at all, even now that she started solids. it smells different, is thinner and has to taste different. so we are stuck with RTF.

  • That was L from the get-go. We started with Enfamil Lipil RTFs that they gave us from the hospital -- i was pumping so we just supplemented sometimes with them - then when that was gone we started using some powder -- horrible gas and fighting taking the bottle. I switched her to powder Similac Advance Shield -- still gassy. Then we started using Similac Sensitive for gas and fussiness RTF she did well with that but she is now on Alimentum RTF - pedi told me that some babies take preference to RTF over powder - i would just switch her to it and not fight it anymore.

  • J seemed to have more problems pooping when he wa getting both. He now rarely gets RTF and his issues are improving.

also RTF stained a lot of his clothes

  • We started off doing the ready to feed and then began using powder formula at night because it was easier. It took about a week for me realize that it was the powder formula that was causing DD to spit up and stop sleeping at night...duh.

Once we stopped it, things went back to normal. For us the powder doesnt work...it didnt for my older daughter either. Total bummer since its cheaper and easier.

I would give it a try but just look for those things like a change in LO's sleeping, spitting up and behavior.

  • I use both.  DS doesn't seem to have a preference to the powder or the RTF.  When DD was on formula, she preferred the RTF over the powder.  She was having problems with the milk-based formulas and didn't like the taste of the powder soy formulas so RTF was our only option.
  • When I was supplementing I used RTF. But once my mild supply stopped and i had to EFF I gave DD 2 ounces of RTF and she vomited right away.......3 times in a row so I had to switch to powder.

I think the RTF was just to thick for her.

  • I hate powder!  I use concentrate.  Can you not use concentrate?  It's cheaper than RTF.
