Let's say you're an idiot and ran out of your asthma medication...

I sent in my new prescription to the mail in pharmacy. I just called, and it was shipped today. Should be here in 2-3 days, not counting Sat or Sun.

I have one pill left. I did not take it last night, and woke up coughing this morning. I took my albuterol inhaler this morning. I *probably* would have been fine without it.

Would you take the pill tonight and hope the prescription comes by Tuesday? Hold off on the pill unless I really need it and keep using my inhaler? There are potentially 4-5 nights that I'll be without.

My insurance won't fill a local prescription now, probably not even for a couple days. Should I go to Urgent Care and see if they have any samples?

This sucks. I was out of the state last week for work, and I did send in the prescription on Monday morning, but there's still no really good excuse.

    Singulair.

I also take zyrtec daily for allergies.

  • I would prob. go ahead and take it and check to see if urgent care or your dr. has any samples you can get. I can't find my Singulair and need my inhaler refilled. Thanks for reminding me. I started having trouble breathing at work today.

    You're welcome. :)

I can tell I forgot my allergy medicine when I start itching before noon.

My only doctor is my OBGYN. She keeps kindly refilling my prescription.  I haven't actually gone to a doctor for my asthma in over 5 years. I guess now's a good time to find one.

  • Your local pharmacy should be able to call your insurance company and get it approved.  I've done the same thing (I also have asthma) and b/c I used the mail in my insurance denied it saying it was just filled (it had, but I hadn't received it yet).  My local pharmacy called the insurance company and explained the problem and I was able to get my medication.  Really its in their best interest...do they want to pay for meds or an ER visit?

    This.

Your local pharmacist can call your insurance and they can usually get an override for a few days supply of medication to get you through until your script gets to you.  I have to do this every few weeks for patients, and it's not really a big deal.

What if my prescription was on paper and got mailed in? I have a scanned copy of it. My online pharmacy prescription ran out. I got a call that they couldn't refill it on auto refill. I figured it wouldn't matter since I was going to send the mail order one in.
