3rd Trimester

In your hospital bag, will you bring

A hairdryer?  (esp. if you have long hair? I've heard the room gets cold and long wet hair in a cold room is not good)

Nursing pads?

Lanolin/nipple cream?

Or are these just a waste of space?

Re: In your hospital bag, will you bring

  • Hairdryer- waste of space

    Nursing pads- bring them

    Nipple cream- definately bring it!

  • Yes, I'm bringing all three of them. I may or may not use the dryer, but at least I'll have it if I want to freshen up.
  • No Hairdryer. Nursing pads and Lanolin/nipple cream: You bet.

  • I'm bringing all 3 of those things.  I do not think a hairdryer is a waste of space at all-- I have long hair, and while I often air dry my hair or put it in a braid at home, I do not want wet hair in the hospital.  When I was in the hospital for ptl, I had my Mom stop and bring a hair dryer the second I was approved to take a shower.  That being said, if you are not the type to dry your hair, it would be a waste of space.

  • not bringing a hair dryer. I can wrap my hair up in a towel if need be.

pads and cream. you bet your sweet ass.

  • No to all three.  Your milk doesn't really come in for a couple days and presumably you'll be home.  Plus, your nipples make a natural lubricant/anti-bacterial so nipple cream isn't a must either.  After nursing just rub a little colostrum around your nipples and you should be set.

  • My hospital does not allow us to plug in a hair dryer, unfortunately.  (I'm not sure how the wet hair thing is going to work, but I'm sure I'll have other concerns at that point!)  I'm kind of jealous that this doesn't seem to be an issue for other people...

  • A hairdryer?  No. On the hospital tour, they specifically told us no hairdryers. They have ones they'll loan us if need be.

Nursing pads? Yes, but having BF'ed before I can say they'll probably be unnecessary, as leaking will probably start later, if at all. If you don't have them and need them, you can get them from the hospital LC. I'm bringing my own because they're cloth and I like the cloth ones.

Lanolin/nipple cream? Probably no. Again, something I can get from the LC if absolutely necessary.
