So...since I'm up. Nursery help?

[Pardon the mess.  Obviously the piles of crap from my shower will be put away, but you get the gist.]

So...we have this white shelving unit that was in the nursery back when it was our office (2nd pic.)   DH really doesn't want to move it ('cause it's screwed into the ceiling) but I feel like it's making everything feel like it's crowded into that one corner.

The chair and the crib both overwhelm the room if we put them on the one blank wall (the fourth picture) and as you can see we lose two other walls to windows and closets, so I have to find a way to work it out!   My stance is that the white shelves should be moved over towards the closets, or switched to the opposite wall so we can center the crib and put the rocker in front of the window.   DH is being very stubborn about it.   Ideas?

  • I can't believe you have an Eames chair in your nursery, too!  We thought we were the only people crazy enough to do that (ours is black though).  DH is finishing up painting argyles on the wall today, so I'll have to post a pic later to show you.

re: your question....I'd leave the shelves where they are and cover that blank wall in art.

Ha - I love it, but the damn thing is huge!

Ours is actually a plycraft - DH just reupholstered it himself in the white leather - it used to be brown vinyl.   As you can see, it still lacks armrests.  :)

  • I'm not sure if I would centre the crib and move the chair in front of the window.  If you put the shelves on the big empty wall it would just make the room look like one big square with no interest.

I would maybe move the shelves over as close to the closet as you can get them.

Either way though, I would definately move the shelves.  You're right, everything looks crammed into that one little corner.

  • In a way, I think you should ditch the shelving all together unless it is really necessary.  I think blocking the window distracts (but I don't find it too cluttered.)  However, moving it to the open wall makes it seem forced.  I think leaving the wall open and adding some sort of art work or design gives space to the room.

It looks amazing!  The only reason we have a real Eames is because my dad lives in the sticks and has a great eye at Estate sales where no one has any clue what they have!

  • Have you thought about putting the crib on an angle?  We have similar issues in our nursery, and when we tried the crib on an angle it opened the space by the chair and used part of the empty wall.

I love your furniture and paint color!

Thank you!   Unfortunately the crib is HUGE, and putting it on an angle cut the room dramatically - I was kind of hoping that would be the solution...

  • I like your original idea of moving the shelves over to the empty wall... I think it would open up the room and make that corner with the chair feel less cramped.
