how long after birth do you do this? I have a 19 month old so I didn't need much, but I am looking forward to showing him off more than i would like a shower...
I don't want a lot of people around him right away so how do I go about planning such a thing?
Re: those not having a shower, but a 'meet the baby' party...
That's really difficult since it will be flu season.
My SIL decided to throw me a "shower" (I really don't want it to be called that since it's not really a shower) and asked if I wanted it before or after the baby was born. I chose before for the very reason that I don't want a ton of people handling baby. We're still celebrating her and her arrival but without exposing her to germs.
We're in the same situation and were planning to have a meet the baby party but not sure since I would want to wait a while but then the holiday season is among us and the family and friends will be meeting her anyway. Also it is flu season, bad weather, exhaustion and other factors too.
I would think the baby should be at least 4-6 weeks old but keep him in a carrier or something so that he isn't being passed around so much. You could probably plan something before all the holiday hoopla starts!

Since you live in FL, is it possible to have most of your party outdoors? The flu is worst in the winter because normally with cold weather, people stay indoors and it's easier for germs to spread. But if you can have the party maybe the very first week of Dec so it doesn't get into the holidays and have it outside, you're better off in terms of not exposing him too much to germs. He'll still just be less than a couple months old, but at least it gives him time to build up his immune system and for you to get a little rest!
I'm going to have mini "meet the baby" parties. Since I'm due a couple weeks before Thanksgiving, I figure my family can meet him at Thanksgiving. And then I can have a small party for just a few friends during the first couple weeks of Dec. After that, I'll probably just have an open house so anyone, co-workers, neighbors, people I'm friendly with can stop in.
