3rd Trimester

Measuring 7 weeks in advance?

Hi ladies~I post on GP but I have a quick question, I asked over on 2nd trimester but they also sent me here, thinking you gals may have had more experience with this.

My cousin just got home from her dr.'s appointment. She's 26 weeks along but was told today after a fundal height measurement that she is measuring 33 weeks. I understand measuring a few weeks in advance, but 7. That seems crazy. She had 2 seperate people measure her. They have already scheduled an ultrasound for next week, but I was just wondering did anyone else have this or have heard of this?

Thanks!

Re: Measuring 7 weeks in advance?

  • Fundal height can be way off for lots of reasons, including the way the baby is laying or too much amniotic fluid.  I would not get concerned at this point...the ultrasound will tell you alot more!!!

  • Could be because the baby is still breech. That was the case with me.
  • I've been measuring 2 wks ahead consistently throughout my pregnancy, and one week I measured 3 wks ahead.  Ultrasound at 36wks showed baby in the 73rd percentile for weight and measurements which the Dr. said was fine.

But 7 weeks!  I haven't heard anyone say they've measured that far ahead.  Only the U/S will give you answers on that one.

  • I would wait until the 2nd ultasound to confirm this, but there could be a number of reasons why this is, like to much amniotic fluid or excessive weight gain.

this is what happened to me I was measuring 4 weeks ahead and then the baby flipped and I was measuring right on.?

  • my cousin measured 4 wks ahead for quite a while, she also carried her weight in her stomach naturally (before pg) so that had a lot to do with it as well.  She did have another u/s and the baby was right on schedule.
  • I have measured 5 weeks ahead so they did an u/s and found that my amniotic fluid levels are on the high side, but baby was measuring within normal ranges...I was 28 weeks then, measuring 33 weeks...since then, I have fluctuated; measuring between 2 and 5 weeks ahead...they don't seem too worried since baby is measuring fine.  When you have an excessive amount of fluid, it can cause problems during the birth.  I measured ahead with my daughter and was diagnosed with excessive fluid with her pregnancy, too, and during her birth, her cord prolapsed, which led to an emergency c-section.   With this pregnancy, it will be a scheduled, repeat c-section, so I don't have to worry about that happening again.

This happened to me just at my last appointment. Measuring 3 1/2 weeks ahead and after an u/s its because she's breech. Only measuring 3 days ahead according tot he u/s.
