3rd Trimester

My MIL just called to ask if I'm in labour

It's funny how, after planning a wedding and being pregnant, you learn so quickly what NOT to say to brides/pregnant ladies.  (And you wonder how these people, who you know have gone through the exact same things, never vowed not to say the same things!)

Anyways...so annoying.  I said to her, "Nope, but don't worry, I'll call you to let you know."  And then she tells me that she has a seminar on Sunday (my due date) from 1-4 and that I can't go into labour during that time.  Are you kidding me, lady?  I told her too bad!  I want to have this baby on my due date and if she's at some seminar that's her problem, not mine!

  • MILs seem to be so ridiculous these days.

  • Your MIL sounds funny to me for making that remark.
  • My MIL was going to be at a seminar during my shower. "Oh dear - I hope it isn't on this date. I will be away at a women's weekend."

Oh brother. Not nearly as bad but seriously, priorities people.

Exactly!  I'm pretty sure that she can take this seminar another time...the birth of her first grandchild though...not so much!

  • OK. lovvvveeee my MIL. But if she was like yours I might poke my eyes out, or hers, whatev.
  • I totally feel your pain.  My MIL came into town last Saturday and will be staying with us until October 13th to help out with LO.  I'm with her 24hrs a day practically and I swear every couple of hours she's like "So, anything happening?" I just want to shake her and say, "You've been with me for the last 5 hours!  If anything was happening you would know!!!"  I really like my MIL, but being with her 24hrs a day is really wearing on my nerves!

Oh God...this is one reason I am so glad that I live close to my IL's...I would not be able to handle my MIL coming to stay with us.  At.  All.

OMG, my grandma did this with my mom last weekend.  Me and my mom were out shopping and my grandma tried to call my mom at home and didn't get an answer so she called my mom's cell phone and when my mom answered she screamed "Is Pizza in labour!?!?!?"  So ridiculous.

  • Ugh, I feel your pain. My MIL called and when I didn't answer she called the hospital. I'm only 28 weeks! We're actually not telling anyone until after LO is born because we don't want people bothering us while we're in L&D and we don't see the point in getting everyone worried when it could take a whole day or more. Clearly we have good reason.
  • My mom likes to call me each morning and tell me whether that day is good for her or not. I have a scheduled c-section. I cannot give her any more of an idea of when we will have this baby. I can pretty much tell her to the hour when it will happen... but still, each day - the phone rings and she says... anything going on?  Today would be a good day....

Just to add - I know I am early - but am on hospital bed rest and it has been touch and go since 33 weeks.... which is why my crazy mother is giving me these dates as an ok to have baby day so early....
