SLR users, please help me out.

I just bought my first digital SLR.  Dh had a non-digital Canon Rebel, so I just bought a new body.  I wasn't ready to spend $500+ so I bought a used XT that is in perfect condition (The XT came out in 2005 I think).  Anyhow, I've read nothing but rave reviews about this camera but here's my one complaint...the screen.  The image quality on the screen is really poor (and supposedly does not at all reflect the actual image.)  How important is this?  Is it a dealbreaker?  I'd like to use this camera for the next 2 years and get really good with it before I consider an upgrade.  Perhaps it's even a good thing to not rely on your digital screen???

Thanks for any input & advice!

Re: SLR users, please help me out.

  • For me it is important. Especially when learning about settings. I look at the screen after every picture to make sure my exposure is good.

I know nothing about cameras though so it may not be important. It would piss me off though!

  • Loading the player...
  • I use my lcd to make sure that I haven't blown my image by using the highlight function and the histogram and I also use it to set my white balance (get a general idea of the color cast I'm getting).  Other than that, I definitely don't trust it to tell me if the picture is good or not just by looking at it on the lcd.  It's so small, you can't tell for sure if your focus is dead on and the colors and stuff can be thrown off easily because you always have light hitting it, etc.

So, I personally don't think that the quality of the image you're seeing on the lcd is of huge importance, but if you are just getting used to using it, it may be really important to you.  I think after using the camera a few times, you will find that out for yourself.
