Going to a 'visitation' tonight.

DH's aunt's mother (I know, lesigh) passed away this past weekend.  I can't attend the funeral, so MIL, DS and I will be attending the visitation this evening.  I've never been to one ... what should I expect?

Is it like a viewing? If so, you just go to pay your respects. If not, I have no clue.

well if it's anything like a wake - you will view the body, give condolences to the immediate family and then mingle for awhile before you go home

We have to go to one on Friday morning for DH's SIL's (brother's wife) dad who I never even met, but since the funeral home is 20 minutes from our house and 2 hours from the rest of the family, we're going to go respresent the family.  Should coincide nicely with DD's naptime, so I'm really looking forward to that...

Long Lines.  Bring something for Jack to snack on and play with.  Kenley really enjoyed playing on the church pews (she was crawling at one and just learning to walk at the other)

It's basically waiting in a line to go hug on the family and pay your respects.

You definitely don't have to stay for long.  Probably a good call to take Jack to the visitation instead of the funeral.  I'm sorry for your family's loss.

Thank you, but honestly, I never actually met this person.  I am going because I don't want to hear snide remarks from aunt/uncle for the next 5 years.

Take snacks and stuff to play with.  I'd take a stroller if you think he's sit in it.  We went to one in the spring and it was interesting with a little one.
