Sigh--I didn't go to the viewing!

not because of nestie pressure, but because I didn't want my MIL to come over and watch the kids.

Audrey is the only one with confirmed H1N1..and she is still running a fever...so I didn't want my MIL exposed.  Kids are different..they don't cover their coughs and sneezes.  I'm pretty sure as an adult I know how to cover my mouth with a kleenex if I needed to sneeze or cough.  And I wasn't planning on spending more than 10 minutes to say goodbye to a dear friend....but whatever.  i didn't go.  You guys can all unwad your panties.

I do not know if I have "it" or not...I haven't been running a fever for 24 hours at least. Yesterday yeah, today no fever.  Technically, I can go back to work tomorrow, or is that flameworthy as well?

honestly, I would think if the medical community was as concerned about the pregnant women and elderly as everyone on here, they would have prescribed tamiflu to us so we don't spread it..but they didn't, and they aren't....They wouldn't even test me because I am not in the "catagory" of people to test....I really doubt I'm the only person in the world who may have gone in public with what "may" be the flu.  I just happen to know that my DD has it because I requested the test.  The doctor wasn't even going to test her but I insisted!!!

Soo, all you out there with colds right now, I hope you are staying inside and not leaving your house, because you could be exposing people to H1N1....

  • I have no flame and I didn't even respond to your original post.  However, I do need to ask, if your DD was diagnosed and they suspect DH had "it", why didn't your Dr test you.  Sounds to me like the Dr. may be flaking out on you.  I would insit they test!  That was my thought to your post.

BTW, I hope you all feel better soon.

  • I'm glad you changed your mind about going and I'm sure everyone there thanks you.

FWIW, most doctors don't prescribe tamiflu because it is useless more than 24 hours after the first sign of symptoms--it only works if you have it on hand before you get sick.  If you have to wait to get a prescription for it, you might as well not bother.  However, most doctors WILL tell you to take reasonable precautions to not spread it.  That definitely includes not going into a room full of elderly people.  (assuming it was an older person who died and so many of the mourners are also elderly.)

  • actually it was for a 39 year old man, and besides his father, and family friends I'm sure it was mostly full of younger/healthy people in their 30's/40's....not a room full of old people....
  • My cousin who lives in FL had it last week and was told to quarantine the whole family for 1 week because her dd tested positive and she is a nurse and he didn't want her to spread it to her dialysis patients who are already compromised. We also had an inservice on it (I do home health therapy) and if a patient has it we cancel their therapy for 1 week after their temp goes back to normal because you are contagious before the temp breaks out and after.
  • Your doctor could be saving tamiflu for the people that really need it. If you are healthy, you wouldn't really need it. Our doctor's are testing everyone and telling everyone to stay home if you are not feeling well.
  • Tamiflu does not prevent or cure the flu.  It only decreases the intensity of the symptoms.  I did not know this when my whole family was on it this summer.  If I had, none of us would have taken it.

Does she have H1N1 or type A flu?  Dr offices are not capable of diagnosing H1N1 and the swab would have to be sent off for further testing.  You wouldn't know on the spot.  If she has type A, it is a good chance it is H1N1 though.

Seasonal flu is not type A flu.

I am just really surprised you weren't given Tamiflu. DD's friend had H1N1 and they gave Tamiflu to the entire family as a precaution.

It's actually backordered most places here.  Very hard to find.  And the CDC is recommending dr's not prescribe it to patients, unless they have weakened/compromised immune systems.  They are trying to save it for the people who really need it.  It has lots of other side effects too, so you could end up feeling even worse from it.
