NBR: is this too much?

Is $5200 too much to pay for tiling an 860sqft condo? This includes tile, cork (sound proof since we're on second floor), ripping up the carpets and existing tile, and throwing away all the trash. They'll also take care of moving all the furniture and putting it back. The tile is $1.09 per sqft and the cork is $1.89sqft. ETA: I know nothing about tile BTW[Poll]

  • So you have roughtly:

$950.00 for tile (with 25% mark up which is being conservative, it's more likely to be 50% mark-up = $1175)

    $1625.00 for cork (with mark-up of 25% = $2031)

    Plus labor ...

I'm guessing it is going to be in that ball park. That's why DIY projects are the cheaper option. You pay someone else they will mark-up the product they by, charge for their labor, charge for you for the use of the tools, gas, and so forth.

  • I would love to DIY but it would be a disaster and I don't have the time.

You can usually save 25% by picking out and picking up the flooring by yourself.  Picking up tiles would probably take several trips (and lots of man power!), but it would save you a grand or so.
