Car seats in accidents-info

I was in an accident back in June and LO was in the car. He was only 6 weeks...it was soooo frekin scary. Anyway, we were both fine but the car needed significant repairs. I read the recommendations about replacing it but misread it and thought I didn't need to replace it. After randomly re-reading the recommendation today, I realized that I do need to replace it. The article also mentioned that some insurance companies will cover the replacement. So I just spoke with Geico and they are covering it! My claim was closed out a while ago but they are still able to do it. All I have to do is go buy a new one and send in my receipt and they will send me a check. Just wanted to pass along the info.

Re: Car seats in accidents-info

  • All insurance companies are required to replace a carseat that's been involved in an accident (whether it's "damaged" or not).  That's assuming, of course, that you have collision coverage on you're vehicle--it's just part of the claim.  It's also true if a responsible party is paying for your damages out of their liability insurance.

  • Good to know! I had no idea. When I spoke to the Geico rep had to check my policy so I wasn't sure if everyone had it. The guy who originally estimated the damage did not mention it at all and the car seat was in the car when he looked at it.
