i've been concerned about my supply since going back to work and am having a hard time keeping up with her. i read on kellymom that most moms only get 1/2 to 2 oz per session. is this true? if so, how do you keep up?
me for example- i get 6-7 oz first thing in the morning, then 3-4 oz 2-3 hours later, then only about 2 per session the rest of the day at 2-3 hour intervals. how do i compare? tia!
Re: ftwm who pump, come in
I only nurse on the left side at night. I pump on the right side in the morning (6am) and get 4oz out of that side. I then nurse DS on the left just before I leave (7am).
Three hours later at 10am, I get 4-5 oz out of both sides.
Three hours after that at 1pm, I get 4-5 oz out of both sides.
And finally, three hours after that at 4pm, I get 4 oz out of both sides.
I then nurse DS shortly after I get home around 5:30-6pm and we nurse several times during the evening.
The 16-18 oz I pump during the day takes care of his 7am-5:30 needs. I do this 4 days a week when I'm in the office.
On the three days I am at home (the weekend and I'm lucky enough to work from home one day per week), I do the normal pump at 6am and nurse the rest of the day. That 12 oz per week is for my freezer stash. Since frozen milk is good for 5 months, that gives me a freezer stash of about ~144oz.
It's a GIRL!!
I don't know if it makes a difference, but I've been pumping for a couple of months (I started pumping 6 weeks before I had to go back to work, so that I would have a decent stash). I also have a really good pump and drink a metric ton of water. That really helps--I notice a big difference (an oz or two less) when I don't drink my normal amount of water. Also, it takes me 15-20 minutes to get my amounts. Try adding 5 minutes per pumping session--you might trigger another letdown. GL!
