DD is almost 4 months old and is only taking 4 to 4.5 ounces of breast milk every three hours. I'm going back to work in two weeks so we gave her one bottle a way every day last week and will do two bottles a day this week, starting today. I pumped while she got the bottles and got 7 to 8 ounces each time (pumped 10 minutes). I'm surprised she's eating so little from the bottles but seems satisfied. How many ounces of BREAST MILK is your 4-month old eating?
Re: 4-month old - how many oz of BM?
DS eats 6oz in each bottle, every 3 hours except overnight. My pedi said that anywhere from 4-6 oz every 3-4 hours is fine. If your DD seems satisfied and is gaining weight on schedule, then she is getting enough.
I EP and my DD takes 4 1/2 -5 ounces of BM every 3 hours, sometimes a little more or less. Sometimes she goes longer/shorter amounts of time. I try to on demand feed as if I was BFing, so I read her cues, but she generally falls into this rhythm. She usually takes much more for her first bottle. And she just recently started taking more. She was at 3 1/2 - 4 ounces for the longest time.
As long as she seems satisified and her wet and dirty diapers are good, then you should be fine. You may just send a little extra to day care just in case she wants it (assuming you have some). I try to send an extra bottle or two each day and sometimes she does go through them.
