Pumpers who've gone back to work, but also nurse...

How far ahead of the game are you with your bottles?  Is the milk you pump today used while you're at work tomorrow?

I go back to work tomorrow and I've got about 35 oz in the fridge.  I'm guessing DS will eat 10-12 while I'm at work so, I've got approximately 3 days worth, meaning whatever I pump tomorrow at work will be used on Friday.  If I do that though then what I pump on Wednesday wouldn't be used until Monday and that seems like a long time.

How do you do it? Do you freeze Friday's and then pump during the weekend after/during nursing to get milk for Monday?

Re: Pumpers who've gone back to work, but also nurse...

  • I keep Friday's milk in the fridge for Monday.  I don't pump over the weekend.

I would probaby just freeze the extra you have as back up just in case, then start giving him the previous day's milk.

  • yes, in general what i pump one day is tomorrow's bottles. however, i only work mon-wed, so this is more how it winds up:

on sunday - pump a little (but trying to nurse while i can) and then thaw some frozen milk for mondays bottles

on monday - use today's milk for tuesdays bottles

on tuesday - use today's milk for wednesdays bottles

on wednesday - freeze milk b/c don't need it for tomorrow b/c i'll be home with DS

  • I pump and freeze daily but i also pump what i need for the next day and leave it in the fridge.  If needed, like this week when LO drank twice as much as normal due to growth spurt, DH defrosted a bag of milk.
