Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Blood pressure after pregnancy

Hello,

My baby is 2 months 1 week old.  After I had him I developed Preclampsia.  I've been on blood pressure medicine now for about 2 months.  I'm on 30 mg of Procardia XL.  I take my blood pressure once or twice a day and while it is definetly much lower than it was at the height of my problem, sometimes it's still high (133/86).  I go back to the doctor every two weeks for monitoring.  I'm hoping I can get off of it soon and this isn't something I'll have to take for the rest of my life.

Did any of you have to take blood pressure medicine after your baby?  If so, how long did you stay on it?

Thanks,

Mary Ann

  • I can't help you but I wish you luck getting off the meds.  That sounds miserable.

  • I was diagnosed with pregnancy induced hypertension after delivering DD.  I was on blood pressure meds for 6 weeks until my first post partum checkup.  The first two weeks, I had to go get my blood pressure checked a lot, it was as high as 166/100 for the first week after delivery.  During pregnancy, I had some borderline high blood pressure readings but never anything that raised a red flag.

Good luck and hope you are off your meds soon :)

  • I can't help you.  I'm going to have to go on meds this week, I think.  I had PIH and it hasn't come down. :(
