putting down LO drowsy but awake...

tips please :)  My LO riles himself up everytime I put him down.  Do you pick up and soothe or just try to let them figure it out?

Thanks!

Re: putting down LO drowsy but awake...

  •  It kind of depends, if she is full blown crying I definitely pick her up, but if she is just kind of whining or fussying sometimes she will go to sleep so I let her be for a little bit.  It's too early for self soothing.  I am a big fan of the FP seahorse.  I would lay DD down and play that and it worked about 75% of the time at 3 weeks when I started and now works almost every time.

  • My DD has just started putting herself to sleep within the last month. It was nothing I did, I just noticed she all of a sudden didn't want me to rock her to sleep so I'd lay her in the crib and turn on her soother thing, give her the binky and she lays there until she passes out. Sometimes I have to go back in and just rub her head or tummy.

  • i didn't start putting him down drowsy but awake until much later, maybe around 4 months. sometimes i still don't for naps and he is still a great sleeper overall.

at that age, i rocked him to sleep and waited until he was in a deep sleep before putting him down. that way he was less likely to wake up when i put him down. it still didn't take very long and my rationale was that babies that young need sleep more than they need sleep training. plus, they are only that small for a short time and i liked rocking him and holding him a bit.

  • I agree that sometimes she is fine and will bablle herself to sleep no problems. But other times she gets so worked up (I think when she is OVER tired) and needs what I call the "sleeper hold" Her sleeper hold is when she shoves her face in the crook of my arm and I literaly hold her arm and leg in (other wise she flails them all over) She is usually OUT in about 2 minutes.
