I've got this mass of milk in my left boob that won't 'soften'. I've massaged the area, put a hot cloth on it, let baby nurse it and it's fricken still there. PLUS, I might have thrush on both nips. Doc app't tomorrow to confirm or deny the diagnosis.

Would love to pack it in with the bfing, but I'd feel guilty. DS sooooo prefers the breast (milk) over formula. I will endure the misery for the contentment of my child. Hopefully the misery goes away soon, maybe like by next week??

Maybe mastitis? I had it when DD was a week old....103 fever....no fun. But I had a mass like that too that didn't go away no matter what (compresses, nursing, pumping, massage) until the antibiotics kicked in.

Ask at the doc tomorrow...hope all goes weel!

Sounds like you have a clogged milk duct - I had one over the weekend.  It only lasts 2-3 days (at least with me).  Use hot compresses, run hot water over it in the shower, always start on that side first and press on the hard area while nursing.  The Kellymom website has a lot more info about it.  BFing is a lot of work - at least once a day I think about how easy it would be to feed DS formula.  But then I think about all the positives, and how lucky I am to be able to nurse DS in the first place....that keeps me going.  I've set mini-goals for BFing - first it was 6 weeks, now 12 weeks, and so on.  Best of luck to you!

i don't know about thrush but if it's engorgement it really only lasts a day or so.  gl!

I think you're right about the plugged duct. I can see a milk blister forming already.....I've had a plugged duct exactly one month ago, with a milk blister that followed. Ever since that went away, my right nipple's not been right at all. I've been dealing with sharp pains for 30 days, and now the pain is on the left one too, so thrush is a huge possibility.
