LO with cradle cap or dry scalp?

My DS had a bad case of cradle cap about a month ago. I used Gentle Naturals cradle cap care on him and it seemed to work. Lately though it looks like his scalp is really dry (dry patches) and he would constantly try to scratch his head. I feel bad for him b/c I can tell it's bothering him.  I bathe him daily but don't always use shampoo everyday since I thought it might dry out his scalp. I use J&J shampoo.  Does anyone's LO have this problem...what have you found that has helped? TIA

  • We only do soap once per week because he had brutally dry skin the first few months.

  • LO has a dry scalp. I brush his head with a soft brush and a little baby oil in the tub, then wash. It does the trick Yes
  • DS had it and the pedi told us to put baby oil on it and let it sit for 10 min, then comb it out with a little comb.  It worked for us. good luck!
  • I bought some Aveeno baby shampoo. I don't remember the name, but it's got oatmeal in it. Brown lid. I've only used it on her once so far, but it looks much better already. She only gets a bath three times per week, too. Our water dries my skin out, so I avoid it on her baby skin as much as possible.

  • My LO has a sensitivity to J&J products.  Try switching to Aveeno, that might help.
  • Same here. I've been putting baby oil in before washing her hair to comb up the dry skin. But her scratching doesn't help it, so she is now wearing a beenie in between until we can get it cleared up. You have to comb it up to get it clear though.

  • My pediatrician recommended Selson Blue with aloe (green top.)  Scrub it in with a soft brush at the beginning of her bath, rinse it out at the end of her bath.  I did that twice (over the course of a week) and it has completely cleared up.

  • I use a tiny bit of olive oil.  Works for me.
