Last night, we weighed the babies (though not on a baby scale, I just hopped on and then hopped on again with a baby)...but they weighed in at 7 and 7.5 lbs.
We are having to wake them to feed much of the night (setting an alarm so we don't miss their feedings) - so it does seem as though they'd sleep (a little) longer if we let them.
When I saw my pedi last, she didn't mention changing their schedule before their 2 month appointment, so I'm not sure that we're in the clear to do it. Does the pedi need to be consulted if we wanted to change?
My concern is that if we let them sleep too long at night and they don't wake up to eat, they won't get enough formula during the day and then will stop gaining weight - because so far they've been champions in the weight-gain department. But I also wonder if they'd find a way to make up for it during the day on their own - and of course they'd let us know if they were hungry!
Oh...they eat 3 ounces at each feeding, and close off the gates after that even if we try to offer more - they just can't hold more yet - which is why I'm nervous about not getting them up to eat at night.
I'd love to hear of others' experiences! Thanks!!
Re: Changing feeding schedule and sleep ?
unless they have health issues- there is no need to get the OK from the pedi - for most anything they are your babies!
if they have regained their birth weight they can sleep as long as they want at night --- so let them sleep - no need to wake them. chances are they will wake up at a similar schedule to what you were waking them for... at least for a few days- but they should start sleeping longer and longer.
they will make up for it during the day- they know what they need.
My boys were STTN at 8w and are gaining awesome. they have increased their daily intake only a litlte- which is fine b/c they are still gaining and they will start solids next month, too.
