When did your LO get on a timed schedule?

My LO is 3 months and BFed and still not on a timed schedule. We have a general routine, but no specific times. Just curious to when your LO got on a schedule? Do you think its important to have a timed schedule?

Here is our general routine- Gets up around 7 or 8am. Awake time (play.. watch baby einstein..etc), then eat then nap (which usually only lasts 20 min or so... ugh) and we repeat all day until about 7:30 which is bath time then bed time. and then he's up 2 or 3 times during the night..

Re: When did your LO get on a timed schedule?

  • There's a fine line b/t a timed schedule and basic routine.

We started a routine at 8 weeks. Sometimes DS deviates from the routine so we try to find ways to tweak it throughout the day so we at least end the day at the same time. We don't always go by the clock, but by how long he's been awake, last time he ate, etc.

7 to 7:30am wake and feed (took him about 4 weeks before he started waking at this time on his own.)
    9:00 nap (1hr)
    11:00 feed
    12:00 nap (2hr)
    2:00 feed
    3:30 nap (1-1.5hr)
    5:00 feed
    cat naps
    7:00 bedtime routine

and, of course, he plays in between all that.

This is what our day is usually like. Unless he's being a grumpy butt and refuses to sleep. That's when we pull out the swing as last resort.

He's been STTN since 11 weeks old, with one dreamfeed at 11:00pm.

  • Here's our general day (play time in between when he's awake):

    6:00am wake up

    6:30am bath

    7:00am nurse

8:00am-10:00am nap (although the length varies)

    10:00am nurse

12:00pm-1:00pm nap (usually only 30-40 minutes)

    1:00pm nurse

2:30pm-4:00pm nap (sometimes only 1 hour, sometimes 3)

5:00pm-5:30pm cat nap if I take a walk pushing him in the stroller

    6:30pm nurse

7:00pm bed time (up 2-3 times during the night)

  • Ummm, almost a year for DD.  Until then, I just went by demand.  I figured she was changing so much that it was not really reasonable to expect her to be on a firm schedule.  It will get a bit better and a little firmer starting around 6-7 mos.
