Trying Something New

So, my kid loves to sleep all afternoon and takes the best naps then.  I am not a mid-day sleeper, but I did try something new today. I went to bed at 7 until 11:30, while my hubby who was watching football stayed up with him.  Now I am wide awake and ready for the night shift. :) I figure if I can't get LO to adjust his days/nights, right now (i mean, he's only three weeks, so I know I have no control) then I will adjust my evening and get my sleep when I can.  I hope it works so I'm not so miserable at night - and hope that I won't be TOO exhausted tomorrow night.   I rarely get four hours of sleep, so I figure that's better than the nothing I have been living off of.

Anyone else sleeping at the most random times to survive the nights??  My DH works all day, so he can't really do the overnights with me...and as much as I will miss him right now with a 7 p.m. bed time, I think this is best for us to get through this time.

Re: Trying Something New

  • That was my routine for the first few weeks with both kids! WHY can't I do it now????

It does suck b/c I have to pump so I can't really go to bed "early".....but yeah many of us do this "shift" work:)

  • Loading the player...
  • Smart idea!!! In the early weeks it's all about survival, you've got to do what works. Speaking of that, DD is asleep and Im back at work tomorrow so I should get to bed and get any rest I can!
  • The other night I was burping her and we both fell asleep on the couch to wake up to my husband 3 hours later wondering where we had been... be sitting straight up with her in my arms sleeping... wtf :)
  • Do whatever works for you and your LO.  I was going to suggest sleeping when your LO is sleeping, but you said you can't take mid-afternoon naps.  See how you are tomorrow night, if you feel rested enough, keep doing what you are doing.
  • It was SO hard to fall asleep at 7...I'm sure it took at least 30 minutes, but I knew I was tired!! And, now it's nice to feel "refreshed" instead of dreading the night.  I hate that I miss out on time with my DH and LO when tehy up are up enjoying the night, but i could even be asleep now since LO is currently asleep...but now...NOT tired!! Of course. :) Ha.  In either case, I think this is the best thing b/c I was getting so resentful about getting up in the middle of the night alone.  At least I feel a little more in control and feel like even though it will be a long night, it won't be as terrible since I did get some sleep today! :)
