TTC after 35

IUI ladies....

I've been reading the posts about IUI's and it seems like there is lots of monitoring going on with it.

I'm going to be getting my first IUI in about a week and a half.  I'm on 100 mg of clomid.  I'm wondering if I should ask for a u/s prior to getting it to check the follies?  Or should I just go with it this month and see what happens?

I'm just suppose to call the day I get a morning  positive on a OPK.  I feel like I should be being a little more proactive.

WDYT?

  • I think the injectable IUI cycles require more monitoring than the clomid cycles to make sure there aren't too many follicles maturing, which could lead to HOM.

  • My experience has been there is much less monitoring with Clomid. My re usually checks once, to make sure you have mature follicles before taking ovudril, but it sounds like you're doing a more natural cycle. You could always ask your RE, at least then you'll have a better understanding of how they are doing this cycle. I will say, the further you get into IUI the more they have to monitor. I hope this is your lucky month :)

  • I did 2 rounds of clomid + IUI with my GYN.  There wasn't tons of monitoring, but I did get 1 u/s the first time and 2 the second.  I think it is important for a couple of reasons.  First, they can check to see how many follies you have. It is unlikely that you will get a ton of follies on clomid, but it is possible so I think it is good to check. Second, they can also check your lining to make sure it looks good, as it can thin on clomid.

Also, you may want to ask about triggering. I triggered with my IUIs to make sure all the follicles released, not just the dominant one.  Assuming you have more than one follicle, this will give you more chances. I have read that the ideal IUI cycle triggers with 3-4 follicles.

If it was me, I would call and ask about triggering and u/s. I know that is easier said than done. I am always very uncomfortable questioning my dr. If he won't do more monitoring, I would do the OPK twice a day. I sometimes O fast after I get the surge.  You would hate to get the timing wrong b/c you O fast after you see the +OPK.  Good luck!!
