I keep reading in books and online that during the night feedings that you shouldn't change their diaper unless absolutely necessary. Does anyone do this? I usually change DD before feeding her and putting her back to bed.
I heard to only change poopy diapers at night - but DS has diaper rash that I am trying to get rid of so I change him every time he gets up to eat at night. Plus I EBF and he really has a poopy diaper every time he wakes up anyway.
I try not to change our LO at night unless I have to. I just slather diaper ointment on real good before her last feeding. She does fine with it, but I'm really only going like two feedings without changing her. It works well for us, she gets up to eat & goes right back to sleep. If your LO goes right back down for you though, I would just keep doing what you're doing.
I change the diaper with night feedings. He pees like mad! My sister recommended to me change first then feed so he doesn't wake up too much, but I find that he often poops while he's eating so I feed first then change.
I breast feed and change her in between sides. This helps keep her alert for the next side, and since we cloth diaper with pre-fold diapers, I'm not comfortable leaving it.. they get pretty wet if you leave them. She is always sound asleep by the end of second side, so I don't think it's a problem. I think they say that because it could alert baby too much.. if your LO is not going back to sleep, then I'd change them before feeding or not at all, but otherwise, do what works for you!
I do the same, change her before feeding. It doesn't seem to bother her and she goes to sleep as soon as she's full. If it seemed to wake her up and keep her awake, I'd probably only do it for poopy diapers.
Due to the rash DD has we have been changing her before we feed her. Sometimes she poops while eating which means she gets changed 2x. Hoping that slows down soon!
We did night changes for the first few weeks, but have since stopped. Maybe this makes me a bad parent, but even if I think she's poopy I won't change her unless she's upset and feeding doesn't calm her down (and this has only happened like once).
If it's just wet I don't change him at night. The diapers keep the moisture away from his skin and we haven't had any problems with this. Once they start STTN, it's not like you'll wake them up to change them.

We always change his diaper, but he usually sleeps b/t 4-6 hours the first time down. So, it would be pretty bad if we didn't change it. Sometimes I feel guilty that I don't wake up in b/t and change him.
I think it's mostly important (if you're aiming for STTN) to keep lights and sound low, do not talk to LO, and don't make a lot of eye contact. If he's crying loudly, we'll calmly shhh him.
Um, yeah. The Bump be too crazy for pics of my kid.
I do not change DD diaper at night unless she is up to be fed. I figure if they are up enough to eat..that I shouldn't leave her in a wet/soiled diaper. I should add that she pretty much STTN and rarely gets up anyways.
I change it once a night if it is poopy. He poops during feedings so I have to do it after he eats. I do it during the feeding that he is the most fussy and has a hard time going back to sleep (4AM).
Until they dropped night feedings, we changed diapers before feeding even overnight. Now that they STTN, we change diapers right before bedtime and don't change again till time for us to get them up in the morning (unless someone has a big enough diaper issue to wake them, and subsequently, us!).
After 20 months TTC with PCOS, we were blessed with twins!
They arrived at 36 weeks after PTL and bedrest for 14 weeks.
At night if DS woke up to eat I would change his diaper before feeding him. He would fall right back to sleep. During the day I would change it after feeding him to try and keep him up for a bit. Now that he STTN, I don't change him unless he completely wakes up. Sometimes he fusses a bit, but goes back to sleep easily, I don't change him then.
I only change her during the night if she poops. She used to poop everytime she ate, so I would change her after middle of the night feedings. She outgrew that about a month ago and I haven't changed in the middle of the night since. The diaper change wakes her up more, otherwise she will just drift right back to sleep.
I do but I am putting a stop to me. I bought DD Baby Dry diapers to hold more of her pee at night. If I smell poop I will change her but other than that I am going to try and make my night visits as quick as possible.

I only change at night if it's poopy. I try to keep him swaddled on his upper half and do it really quickly so he doesn't wake up too much.
The worst is when he passes gas and I think he pooped, so I wake him to change him and there's nothing there... and then he's so hard to get back down!
Re: Diaper changes at night?
When he was little and pooped a lot, I would change him.
But now, I never change him unless it's poop or it's very heavy. I just nurse quickly then it's back to bed.
(Psst: Change your ticker.)
I stopped changing DS when he was about 4 weeks old.
With my two boys I never changed a diaper in the night unless it was dirty. Wet was ok.
Night feedings were done with no extra noise, no lights, no stimulation that was avoidable.
I have 2 good sleepers to this day who both achieved STTN by 5 months (8-12hrs).

We cloth diaper, if that matters.

Poopy, yes, wet, no.
She will wake up still if she has a poopy diaper, and won't go back to sleep until it's changed.
