Hey guys! I have never gotten a flu shot before and generally am kinda "anti-flu shot" like.....but being that I am pregnant during flu season and am a nurse, I decided to get one at my OB's insistence. Well, the only version available was the normal one that contains the mercury preservative, thimerasol....I requested the non preservative version, but my hospital did not have it. So, I asked my OB and several drs about it and they said it was fine....that its not that much mercury (25 mcg to be exact). So, I got it......but then, being nervous, I went home and researched it and found tons of arguments/data that claim its still very harmful to the baby and can cause autism. So now Im all freaked out and wish I has followed my gut and skipped the stupid shot. Please tell me some of you ladies got the same shot and your babies turned out fine! I need some reassurance! The CDC web-site states that its fine, but there is still so much info out there arguing the opposite.....

Re: Did any of you receive the regular flu shot (that does contain thimerasol) while pregnant?
I'd trust the CDC's information. The doctors who put together the studies linking thimerosal and autism have had their methodology called into question by the AAP and other bodies, and the hypothesis has generally been discredited.
You're far more at risk from complications from a bad case of flu than you are from the tiny amount of mercury in the shot.
This exactly.
FWIW, I also got the regular flu shot. While he hasn't been born yet, I haven't felt any change in movement from him. Also, I know a lot of women who had the regular flu shot while pregnant and their children are just fine.
