On how to make a pillowcase? I am a total dunce and have a pretty crappy sewing machine (a $80 Singer) but I need to make some pillow cases for DS's toddler pillow...

Are you a visual person? Might you benefit from turning an adult pillow case inside out and just looking at how its constructed? If you cut the fabric a certain way, you only have to sew 4 lines...2 for the "fold over" at the exposed edge where the pillow goes in and then 2 (inside out) for the LONG sides of the pillow case, turn inside out and voila!

Here.  It's a free download from our quilt shop, although it fits a standard sized pillow, I'm sure you could adjust the measurements
