Need some advice

I ask you guys this stuff because I'm the most comfortable with you all.  Sorry if the random posts bug you.

I am thinking about the birth though especially since I want to plan for a VBAC.  I can sign up for a birthing class.  It's per couple.  I have no idea if DH will actually be here if things work out job wise because he may again be away for training.  I have a girlfriend who said she'd be with me if DH isn't here.  So, should I take the birthing class and have both of them attend with me (obviously getting permission from the instructor) or just have only DH go with and not worry about how I'll get through if I don't remember anything and DH isn't here but my friend is?

Ditto that your situation is fairly unique, but also not unheard of--I think your instructor will should be flexible. And really, when it comes to your actual birth, the doctors and nurses won't be asking who took the class with you, they'll be asking who you want in the room.

Go with both of them.

My mom was the stand-by birthing coach for an old friend long ago when her DH was to be deployed soon. They were both there for the birth, which was the best thing to happen.

Agreed- be prepared. You'll feel better about it, and any stress you can eliminate is good. Can I be nosy and ask what kind of classes you're taking?

I was just going to take the regular birthing class offered at the local hospital.  And I think I'll go to the library and check out some books on other methods other than flat out lamaze.

I agree with everyone else.  Have both attend just in case.

I would totally have your friend as a backup.  Who knows what DH will be doing then, you know?  What classes are you thinking of doing?

I'm sure your instructor would be fine as long as your friend is an active part of the class and not just sitting there.  My instructor had a class after us where there was a friend attending too and she never said anything.  The instructor thought that was weird.
