NER: Britax convertible carseats?

Do you have one of the Britax convertible carseats?  If so, which one?  I've been reading reviews and a couple people have mentioned that the middle piece isn't very generous for those in cloth or with chunky thighs.

Do you have any issues with how close the middle buckle thingy is for your child in CDs or child with chunky thighs?

Re: NER: Britax convertible carseats?

  • We had the Roundabout.  Abby outgrew the height limits for rearfacing before ever turning one.  It got used about 4 months and is now in storage.  I can't remember how it worked with cloth diapers, sorry =(

  • We have the marathon, and I don't seem to have any problems. His CDs def stick out more but I just pull the buckle out from under him. I have to do that whether he's in a CD or disposable. We really like it, but they don't have an bells or whistles compared to some other seats.

  • We have the Marathon, we don't have any issues with CDs fitting and DD has chunky thighs. It seems every day I'm having to adjust the strap length (it just takes a second) but that is all depending on what A is wearing as far as clothes and CD. She is 90% for height and weight and 18m so if we were going to have an issue I think it would have happened by now: ) Hope that helps! We love our Marathon, I would buy it again for #2.
  • We have the Roundabout AND the marathon (DS is really tall and grew out of the Roundabout quicker than expected so we're using it for #2), and I haven't had any problems with cloth diapers in the car seat. It's a non issue, I think.

You might want to go to carseatdata.org and check how the seat might fit in your car though, I know the marathon is pretty big to be rear facing in some vehicles.

  • We have the round about and its not long at all. DS is chunky thighed and it cuts into him unless i losen the top a little but then its not tight so I don't recommend that one. In California my friend had a marathon and DS fit it fine the middle piece was longer. I can take pics tonight if you want to see. Plus the marathon goes up to a little heavier weight then the roundabout but it costs a l ittle more too.
  • I have a marathon and DS fits in it fine w/ CD.  I do have to adjust the straps some.  He seems really comfortable in it.

  • I'm not sure how many kiddos you plan on having, but something I never thought about was fitting car seats in our car. We have a Honda Accord so I thought it was pretty big. Even with an Evenflo Triumph (which I REALLY like by the way and MUCH cheaper) and a Graco infant seat, the car seats almost touch! I tried to sit back there when we were bringing how DD from the hospital and realized that my toddler could barely fit between the two seats. If we get a vehcile that we have to do three across when we have a third, we're going to have to buy new car seats.

Anyway, not something I thought about with the first but thought I might point it out since I thought you said you at least wanted a second child.

  • We have a roundabout, and have no issues with either chunky thighs or CDs.

I love the pic of your little one and the dog too cute.

  • If you have a smaller baby and a smaller car, the Roundabout would be a better choice.  We got the Marathon because I didn't want to have to buy another seat before moving to a harnessed booster - years from now. We have no issues with using it with cloth diapers.  E is still rearfacing at 20 months and has tons of room to go.

  • We have the Marathon and it works great for DD. I've never had issues with her diapers getting in the way. The only issues I have are when she's wearing a sweater or jacket and I forget to remove it before buckling her in. That said ,the Marathons don't fit in every car so I'd try it out in your car first. All in all we love the Marathon and will probably be getting one for the next baby as well.
  • We have the Boulevard, which is one of the largest ones, and don't have a problem with the cds or the fact that DS has chunky thighs.  I have to make sure I pull the center strap out from under him the whole way but other than that it works great.

Along the lines of cars we have an Explorer and an Accord.  It fits great in the Explorer and does well in the Accord but it makes a slight blind spot.  We'll be getting a Marathon soon for the Accord so that we don't have to keep switching the seat.  I'm hoping we don't have the blind spot issue.  Oh and with the Boulevard you definitely couldn't do 3 across...you can do one on either seat in the back.

  • Marathon here - SD is 60# and over 3' tall. Very chunky and the seat fits fine. She is actually going to outgrow the weight before the height. We are planning on a Frontier next (harness to 85#, then booster).
