My views are strongly democratic, but I have voted for Republican candidates in the past if I feel they'll do a better job than that Dem candidate. I definitely don't feel like I've ever been Republican, though.
So I definitely consider myself a Democrat but I don't necessarily vote for the Dem candidate.

Mine didn't really fit - my parents are Republican so I was technically raised as such, but from a very early age I identified Democrat and have remained staunchly liberal my entire life. I can't imagine I will ever identify Republican unless the parties undergo a dramatic change.

I had to vote other - my parents were both raised Dem and were pretty staunchly Dem until the mid-1990s, which I think is when I became more aware of politics and political parties. Then they became super Republican. Like so right wing on a lot of issues, it was astonishing. I should add both of their parents are SUPER-Democrats. Like pull the party lever, would never consider voting R. I do think my mom voted for Reagan, though - not sure about my dad.
It's funny to look back now, but Clinton really turned them off the Dem party for some reason. They loathed him and I really cannot remember why. Pretty sure they voted for him in 1992, though.
Anyway, so I was probably identified pretty Republican in early college based on what I'd been exposed to, and as a poli sci major I had a LOT of very liberal professors, which really just pushed me more conservative b/c I'm contrary like that. Later, during law school, I became increasingly liberal on social issues like gay marriage and abortion, just from studying the law.
I'll probably die a contrary Independent since there's a lot I hate about both parties.

I was raised with a Rep. dad, who leaned a little to the left and a Green Party mom who is as a socially liberal as they come. I've always been very liberal when it comes to social issues and aligned with the Dems until the past few years. Now I consider myself and Independent who leans right on fiscal issues. I vote on what the person stands for, not the party they align with.

I was raised very, very Republican (like, foxylucy would love to be in my Grandparent's house for political debates with my family..haha!) I have a hard time identifying with either party.
I'm independent because I don't believe in the party system. The founders of our country actually specifically spoke out against a party system because they felt it would divide the country. Socially I'm VERY liberal, fiscally I lean conservative. I vote for the candidate not the party and will never register with a party because I don't believe politics is an appropriate place to "choose sides."
