Any suggestions

So lately I've been waking up and realizing that I've clenched my jaw all night.  This of course makes it super sore and tight, not to mention the headaches it causes.

Any suggestions on how to stop it or what it's from?

Re: Any suggestions

  • It's probably stress. ?Talk to your dentist, a bite guard might help.?

  • I clench and grind big time.  The only thing that helps me is a bite guard.  The ones from the drug store that you boil and shape to your mouth don't work well for me; I had one made at the dentist.  My teeth are much less sensitive and my headaches are not as bad now.
  • Talk to your dentist about a nite-guard.

  • I do this occasionally and when I was pregnant it was worse,  I ended up getting an inflamed nerve in my tooth and wanted to have it pulled.  Turns out all I needed was a little bite piece that kept my jaw separated and helped me not clench so much.  After the nerve calmed down life was better.  I got mine from my dentist, he made the mold and fitted it to my teeth. I still wear it when my jaw starts to hurt and it helps alot.

  • It sounds dumb but I made a new habbit of putting the tip of my tongue between my teeth.   I was a clencher for a long time and that actually helped.

  • I apparently did it so much that I was getting stress fractures in my teeth! My  dentist recommended a night guard and while I still clench my jaw it is not nearly as bad as it was before. I definitely don't have the jaw pain and stiffness that I used to.

  • No Idea.  I have been grinding my teeth for most of my life.  I've had to wear a mouth guard since my early teens.  Now I have braces to correct my horrible jaw.  So if you find any way to stop actually clenching your jaw, let me know, cause I wanna know!!!!
