Poll: How often does your 1 yr old eat solids?

I just was admitted to the WIC program today, and they were saying that DS should be eating solids six times a day. That seems crazy to me, like all we will do all day is sit with him in his high chair...  So I am wondering how many moms follow this guideline.

Re: Poll: How often does your 1 yr old eat solids?

  • we have been doing 3 meals and maybe one snack for the past month or two. He still eats very little at most sittings, and has suddenly become more picky (he used to LOVE any type of beans/veggies and now he spits them out and drops them off his tray). The food waste drives me absolutely nuts!

  • Noel almost never snacks. Granted he's 2 but this has been the case since before he was a year when he went to total solids. I would say he has one snack a day maybe once a week. Some weeks he only eats three meals (and let's be honest - with a toddler we give him three meals. Doesn't mean he eats them). Some weeks he might be extra hungry and snack a bit but on average I'd say he's always been a 3 square kind of kid. He definitely does not have any weight issues because of it.

  • Three meals, two snacks, sometimes three. She loves to eat. She's always on the go, so there is that. Sometimes I will let her have her snack in her room if she doesn't want to sit or if we are out. Get a snack bowl with a lid from Target. I stick Annie's cheddar bunny crackers, Kashi seven whole grain crackers, cut up raisins, and cut up fruit in there, and she's good to go.
  • DS currently eats 3 meals plus a snack so I chose 3 plus 2 snacks since I'm pretty sure that's where we'll be at a year, but it may be more.  He definitely is getting more and more into solids every day.

  • We do healthy snacks, like fruit often.  We also do stuff like goldfish, slices of cheese, cheerios, etc that she can "travel" with.  She's so much on the go at this age that before she's done eating in the high chair she's ready to get down and play.  So snacks are essential.

As for not eating veggies, sneak them into spaghetti sauces and stuff like that.  I always add extra.  Also, DD prefers seasoned veggies so I try to give her some (very little salt) more often now.  You just have to experiment.
