I'm desperate for Cd help, stink issues

I have been CDing DD for 16 months and everything was dine until we bought a front loader and the ammonia issues have been building since then.  I wash a full cycle on cold water, then a full hot cycle with about a tablespoon of Arm & Hammer powder (have always used this) and finally another full cycle on cold.  I've used an occaional bit of bleach to help with the smell but it doesn't really work and I've tried using some Dawn and washing the CDs 5 or 6 times.

The ammonia is getting so bad that it smells strongly when I change her instead of when it's been in the pail for a day and DD is getting what are essentially ammonia burns.  If it matters I have BG 3.0, Thirsties and Blueberry AIO's, Green Sprout Fitteds and some hemp inserts.  Everything stinks.  Thank you so much.

  • I had the same issue once, and I used RLR to strip them.  I washed and dried as usual, then put them back in my FL washer, dumped a packet of RLR and ran a long sanitize wash (I usually just do a hot wash) with RLR and regular powdered Tide up to the 1 line.  They were stink free and looked brighter too.  I have soft water, so I didn't think RLR would work.  I was super impressed with it.  I plan to use RLR once a month, and I have learned not to skimp with detergent in between.  You need a decent amount of detergent to get them really clean.

  • I had stink issues too.  I found that adding 1/2 of vinegar to my (top loading) washing machine and doing a full hot wash w/the vinegar and then doing a regular laundry cycle (hot wash w/detergent then rinse twice) helped to get the ammonia out.  Now I don't need to do that all the time and usually add about 1/4c. vinegar to the wash load in my regular routine keeps the stink away.  Hope this helps!
