Babies on the Brain

I am going to kill DH.

He just called to tell me that every one of his coworkers and all their family/kids/etc are coming for dinner 1 month from today.  Over 25 people.  Here is my issue:

1) It's a Friday, so I am apparently supposed to work all day, come home and fix the house up (luckily the maid comes the day before at least) and then make dinner for 30 people and then make myself lovely and charming and be engaging for a dinner party.  HA!

2) We moved into our house less than a year ago.  We moved from 1800 sq feet to 3500 sq ft and got rid of all our old furniture to get new stuff.  Our house isn't even close to company ready.  The dining room has a table and chairs and that is it.  The formal living room is EMPTY except for a coffee table and it's at the front of the house.  I still haven't ordered our planation shutters because I had been procrastinating due to expense.  Now I have a call into the guy but they take 6-8 weeks to come in.  I wonder if they can rush them?

Not happy.

Re: I am going to kill DH.

  • It's simple: ?Tell him what you're worried about and tell him that it's his job to fix everything. So it's his job to take care of dinner, get the furniture and get the house company ready.?
  • Loading the player...
  • Easy fix: Caterer and rented white table and chairs in an empty room. Perfect. Tell him he needs to business expense the flowers and food and anything less than that he can kiss your arse.

  • Uh oh. Bad DH!!

Since I love food, can we talk about menu ideas?

  • Trust me. I told him all of the above, including expensing everything.

What really worries me is the second item.  I don't mind having a few people over in our half empty house but a huge event is frightening, even though I have known all these people for years.  Maybe since it is close to Halloween I will turn it into a haunted house. No one will notice the missing furniture.  Let's see how DH like that.

  • the rented tables and tablecloths take care of the missing furniture also - or maybe you should just go shopping!!

  • The problem is we have been shopping over and over again.  We don't WANT an empty house.  We also don't want to buy furniture that doesn't really go or we don't really love just for the sake of having it.  We have been going to 3-4 furniture stores a weekend looking for stuff and try to get at least 1 thing a week (picture, furniture, stain the deck, whatever) but it is a slow process.
