thank you and yes. i would not get the kit though - id just get the body and then get a 50mm lens with the money saved. but thats me haha

Lookin on ebay at bodies($549) vs. the kit ($550) it is not a huge difference. The lens (if I am looking at the correct thing) runs high $300. Where did you buy from? Are these prices about the norm?

is there a big difference in the 18-55mm lens vs. the 50mm lens

nah, just get the 50mm 1.8 - it runs about $100.

 

and eh, the 18-55 is just a regular boring lens. ::shrug:: doesn't do much, doesn't get that crisp picture, and doesn't do well for portraits.

check out B&H Photo for some good deals.  I bought my Rebel Xsi from them three weeks ago.  I got the kit.  I'll eventually buy a 50mm lens (per punk and others' suggestion) but I figure I'll get my feet wet with the 18/55 lens.
