Toddlers and Tiaras, discuss

So, I DVR'd a few episodes to see what in the world pageants were all about.  I still don't really get it.  I was also appalled at the last episode where as a surprise they gave away puppies as a prize too in addition to crowns.

Re: Toddlers and Tiaras, discuss

  • Yikes puppies!  So wrong.

I watched in once and was amused by the moms that said, "I'm not a pageant mom, but...".  Sorry mama, but you ARE a pageant mom!

  • Those hard-core moms scare the crap out of me.  They have issues beyond belief.  Fake teeth?  Spray tans?  Wigs?  More makeup than Tammy Faye Baker?  Tight-ass clothes on little girls?  Check, all.

I find it telling that the moms are often unattractive.  Talk about living vicariously through your innocent child.

And the puppy thing just really bothers me.  That is so wrong.  Most of those poor animals are probably neglected or taken to a shelter.

  • Yeah, I agree.  The way they try and make the kids look "glitz"  (to me = fake)  is just weird.  I really wanted to try and "get" it, b/c I like to keep an open mind about things.  Also the money they spend is ridiculous.  THey could be saving that money for their kids college funds.  The one comment I did here a few times is that it helps the kids with confidence and they like being on stage.  But what I don't get is that they aren't good at dancing or acting or whatever.  It seems like you'd see better stage performance at a dance recital or something.  And a kicker was the mom who named which of her 5 girls was the prettiest.  And most of the pagent moms are obese.  I just don't get it.
  • <<<<<------ Pagent Mom.

    No make up.

    No big hair.

    No glitter.

Winners get bags of Princess goodies and a crown.  In fact, all princess contestants in every area pagent gets a crown, it's a cheapie dress-up one, but they still feel like winners.

Tots and Tieras is a view of a culture that is not all pagents.

Ditto that- I always joke that the show makes me look like mother of the year.

Also the amount of money these people spend (one said she had spent between 60-70K) would definitely be better saved for the child's education-  I don't think that a grand prize of 1K is making up for the dresses that cost ~600 each, entry fees, fake teeth, hair, makeup, coaching, etc.

I can't help but picture a landfill filled w/ tiaras & sashes when I watch that show.
