Babies on the Brain

::licks fingers::

Making baby food is bad for your waist line.  Maybe I should just buy them the little jars so I don't eat it all.

Yesterday was plums and carrots.  Today was sweet potatoes and mango.  Tomorrow will be green beans and squash.

I eat better now than I did before I had kids.  ;)

  • I'm on the fence on making babyfood for Gabe - was it difficult?

  • Nope, it's super easy, especially if you make it in bulk and freeze it.  I just bake, steam, or boil whatever fruits and veggies they get, puree them with my stick blender in a bowl, and spoon them into ice cube trays.  Once the cubes are frozen (usually 24 hours later) I put them in baggies with the name and date on them and put them back in the freezer.  It's easy, cheap (compared to buying the jars), you can make the texture however you want, and the food tastes so much better IMO.  Both babies will actually eat most of the foods without complaint, unlike with the jars.  Especially the green stuff.  LOL

  • Do you buy your fruits/veggies fresh?  For ex, we usually eat frozen veggies for dinner.  Can I make baby food from a serving of frozen green beans, peas etc or would I have to buy them fresh?

  • I buy most of it fresh, but you could do just about anything frozen as long as it's just fruits and veggies with no added stuff.  I do green beans and peas frozen, and will probably do broccoli that way when they start eating that in a couple of months.  The greens just seem to be easier to do if they start out frozen.  The end texture is a lot smoother for some reason.
  • Veggies would probably be the only thing I would do frozen since we already have them in the house.

    Now you've gotten me interested.  I'll have to do more reading.

  • I'm sure you've seen recommended on here before but wholesomebabyfood.com is a great place to start.
  • I've seen it, but I haven't checked it out.  Thanks!

  • they have the baby beacook at bed bath and beyond...you can use a 20% of coupon for it. you just put the raw food in it and it steams and purees with a touch of a button. easier to clean and prepare.
