What to get for Christmas?

I wanted to make everyone here an ornament but any other of my handmade ideas probably won't go over so well.  I need ideas on what to get for MIL/FIL and SIL/BIL.  I already got the other SIL a chick-fil-a gift card to use at school.  FIL is the hardest to shop for because he always says he has everything.  And I was hoping to make it a combined gift for each couple.  SIL/BIL I could get a nice bottle of wine or something like that.  FIL doesn't drink, but MIL does.  And I don't want to get them anything that will sit around the house...they have enough crap here and don't get rid of anything.  I know gift cards/certificates will also sit around unused.  Even though that's probably what I'd lean towards for them.....  I need help.  DH and DS are so much easier, because I already have so many ideas for them both of what I'm making for them and the couple things that are getting bought/already bought (some of DS winter clothes).

  • I'd get the couples, esp. MIL/FIL a GC to a restaurant they like.  Then they can choose for themselves.  Even if it doesn't cover a whole dinner, it's still something!

  • How about a nice holiday-ish centerpiece?  I am thinking of something with fresh holly, pine boughs, maybe a candle, etc.  Very pretty, and nothing to store/display after the holiday.
  • For the couples I like the idea of a GC or if you don't think they'll use that a basket of consumables - like the ingredients for a dinner.

Or for MIL/FIL, would they like a calender with your LO's pictures? I know that would be a hit with our parents. But generally for people with too much STUFF I like consumable items - like nice olive oil and vinegar etc.

I am allergic so I would not be putting that together.  And MIL would figure out a way to dry and save it.

  • Maybe make a themed gift basket. You could a movie on with popcorn, candy, and a movie in a popcorn bowl for example. I made my dad a "man food" one with chili mix, pb chocolate bars from a local candy shop, buffalo slim jims, peanuts, .... maybe something else. These are usually inexpensive and require thought.

  • I also ditto all the food suggestions.  My ILs (includes parents and siblings as well as my dad & stepmom) are getting the canned blueberry topping I made at canning camp along with either pancake mix or maybe ice cream supplies like a scoop, a couple of bowls, something like that.  I can't really buy more jars, so I need something I can throw together.

  • not terribly EF but my dad, who similarly has everything already he says, likes getting a citrus box delivered in winter or something like that. anything edible that is unique and comes once a month or even just once.
