Do you let LO nap in the swing?

I let DS nap in the papasan swing during the afternoons...he usually naps for about 1 - 1 1/2 hours.  However, the past 3 days he slept for 3+ hrs!  It was nice at first but now I'm wondering if it's ok.  Yesterday he napped for over 4 hours and I was torn between letting him sleep or waking him up.  I ended up letting him sleep...he didn't wake until 6 pm which was so close to his bedtime! Does anyone's LO also sleep this long in their swing?  I'm just concerned about him not eating, getting any interaction, or maybe messing up his bedtime schedule.  If only he could sleep this long & peaceful in his cradle!

Re: Do you let LO nap in the swing?

  • I let my LO sleep in the swing - but he never sleeps as long as yours.  He does tend to nap longer in the swing, however, because it rocks him back to sleep if he wakes up.

  • If he falls asleep there, I let him stay there.  He usually doesn't sleep for more than an hour in it, but it gives me a chance to do some chores.

  • my DD takes almost all of her naps in the swing.  if it's not there, she sleeps in the boppy next to me on the couch.  her naps are usually on 30-45 minutes though.
  • We've always tried to let him sleep in his crib.  If he fell asleep in the swing though (which we rarely use) I would let him lie.
  • Yes, sometimes S will only nap in the swing. I always try her crib first then if she wakes up I will put her in the swing.

  • This used to be the only place where DS would nap.   We have now started taking him to his crib to nap, but he definitely doesn't sleep as long.  I usually start him in his crib then if it wasn't that long of a nap, I move him to his swing.

If I think he is napping too long in his swing and I want him to wake up, I just turn it off and he wakes up shortly after that.

    ha!! double take :-)

  • My Lo sleps in the swing. She sleeps for 6 hrs from around midnight to about 7am. I am afraid to try her cradle out.
  • Mine used to sleep like, 80% longer in his swing, so that's where he'd nap. He napped in it until about 3.5 months and is apparently done with it. Now if I put him in there he just gets pissed he can't reach the animals on the mobile and shakes it all over the place and it freaks me out. We're giving it to a friend that's due in a few weeks

  • DS sleeps in the swing all the time for naps, and (depending on the day) will take anywhere from a 30 min nap to a 3 hour one.  It must just be whatever he needs for that day, because he always sleeps 7-10 hours at night, no matter how much he napped during the day.
  • He naps in the swing, in fact he's there right now and has been snoozing for about an hour. Though it usually only lasts about an hour, he does his long sleeping in his pack n play or crib. He really doesn't sleep more than 2-3 hours at a time during the day.

  • I will, but not with the swing on.  Usually she'll fall asleep on me, and then I'll put her in the swing so I can get up and do chores and stuff.
  • definatley...he will sleep anywhere from 30 min - 2 hrs in the swing. I feel bad sometimes, but I can get so much done and he looks so content. I want to start putting him in the crib for naps, but haven't crossed that bridge yet!!

Oh honey, you have plenty of time for that. If your LO sleeps better in the swing, take it while you can. There will come a day where he won't anymore
