first time daddy books?

were any of your dh's interested in any of these?  dh's birthday is thursday and i was wondering if he'd like to have a daddy's type pregnancy book or if they're all too lame to bother with or if others with experience didn't find their dh's wanted to read about it like i might etc etc?  thoughts?

Re: first time daddy books?

  • DH has an Idiots Guide to Fatherhood or something like it. Parts of it were pretty humorous. There's another out there that's supposed to be funny. Maybe ask 1st tri if you dare venture over there. Wink

  • My DH read several (he's a reader) that he thought were really friend. I kept finding that they were giving him off the wall idea's and stuff I completely disagreed with. I think a lot of the daddy books are written in a more to be funny than informative. So, I would really look into anything you get....I swear my DH really thought ,sometimes, that a book written by some random guy knew more about how I was feeling then I did.
  • this is true. dh is a jokester so would prob like a funny book though i would like it to be moderately informative for him too and not too stupid with off the wall things that make me want to maim him.  heh.

and first tri!  i forgot about it and sniffed over there about an hour ago.. i don't know if i can post there though.  i'm afeared of the other boards!

  • My DH is not a reader, and yet in his excitement about the baby he managed to get about halfway through "A Caveman's Guide to Pregnancy". I was impressed, as it was the first time I'd ever seen him sit down to read a book (in this way we are exact opposites- I read all the time and used to work in a library!).
  • My DH LOVED "The Expectant Father"  (of course this is more of a Pregnancy book rather than Father book - but I think there is a Fatherhood 'Sequel')

I also bought him a book "Don't Just Stand There" which he didn't like because it took the labor role to a humourous level rather than being useful.

  • My DH read "What to expect when your wife is expanding."  It was not formatted like the what to expect books and was REALLY funny.  Even I read it and got a kick out of it.  I'd totally send it to someone if we had it with us!
