FFing mamas..how much formula do you waste?

Probably two bottles a day, I make 5 oz of formula, and Ava only eats maybe 3, either she's not hungry or she falls asleep and by the time she wakes up, it's not good anymore.  It's hard to predict when she'll do this though, so I waste at least 4 oz of formula a day.  It's so frustrating because it's so expensive!

Anyone else have this problem?

  • I'm guessing around 8 oz. a day.  I make 4 oz. bottles and she doesn't consistently drink the whole bottle.  She leaves one or two oz.  But, I'm not making them with any less, because she often drinks the whole bottle:)

  • We did when we made the switch from BFing to FFing b/c I had no idea what DS would eat. I ended up making small bottles and then 1 extra 8 oz bottle and would feed DS say 3 oz...if he was still hungry, I'd pour over another oz or 2 from the extra 8 oz bottle and go from there. It was quick and didn't leave him hollering for more for very long b/c I didn't have to prepare more formula.

  • I would say probably 4-6 ounces a day. She is so un-predictable during the day. If I make 3 she wants 5 and vice-versa.

We have this problem because it's imposible to make an odd ounce amount!  (Unless you make 2 bottles and then split it, but who wants to do that?!) We waste about an ounce at every feeding, so 6 ounces a day.  Crap, that's a whole bottle!

Just "eyeball" the half scoop and you can make an odd ounce amount. We did this all the time when DD was taking 3 ounces. It is easy to do once you figure out where the half mark is and just remember.

  • Lately 1-2ozs a day before that I would say 8oz or more a day.  Lo has been eating 6 oz steady now sometimes 7 if we need more we make it.
