Mixing formula?

What are the implications of mixing a bottle wrong (i.e., putting in the powder before adding the water)? I think I saw this morning that that is what they were going to do with DDs bottle, but wanted to see how big of a deal it is to know how big of a deal I should make about it. I have complained 2 different things the last 2 days and didn?t want to be ?that person? if it wasn?t necessary.

  • I would guess the incorrect amount of water resulting in formula that is too concentrated..whic would probably cause gas and constipation

  • If you want 4 oz of formula, you need to start with 4oz of water and add the formula powder into it. If you put the powder in first, then fill the line up to 4oz, the measurements will be off and the formula will be too concentrated. I would mention it if i were you.
  • My kiddos have only been supplemented with formula, but usually get about three bottles during the day while I'm at work and one or two at night depending on how my supply is and how needy they were, but honestly, that is how I've always mixed a bottle.....scoop and then add water. I never really thought it mattered. My kids have never had a problem with gas or consipation.

  • Thanks, this makes me feel better. I'll say something about it but not make a big deal. I did make a big deal when on Monday they said, "Oh, sometimes I feed her 2 oz between feedings and don't write it down". I told her I need to know how much she is eating and how often (she is at the lower end of the weight scale - about 10th percentile). I don't have a problem with how often they feed her, I just want to know. Smile There is a big difference in the amount she is eating daily if they are 6 or 8 extra ounces thrown in that I don't know about.
