Do you know any adults who have had H1N1?

Hear me out.  We're TTC and I'm a high school teacher.  I feel pretty confident that I'll be exposed to H1N1 at some point this year.  I know that pregnant women are more at risk of complications, and I'm particularly worried about the fever part (because high fevers in the first trimester allegedly result in neural tube defects).

Therefore, I'm interested to hear *how* sick H1N1 makes an adult.  I've heard varying things, so I thought I'd do an informal poll here.  Thoughts?

  • I teach and I know we'll be exposed.  I'm curious to see the replies since DD's dr. and my allergist are not recommending the shot.
  • DH's co-worker just had it last week. He was out of work for a few days and had a fever at one time of 103. He said it was AWFUL.

  • Oh and my dad knows someone who was in the hospital with it over the weekend.
  • I am pretty sure that we had it in April. DH and I didn't have fevers, but both of the kids did.  DH and I were really congested and had total sinus issues.
  • Keep in mind I think they're expecting the cases this fall/winter to be worse than cases this past spring.
  • My friend had it in June (she has 2 kids, one was 2 months at the time, and neither got it). She wasn't sick enough to go to the hospital, but she said it was basically the worst she has ever felt. She was out flat for at least a week - it was bad.

  • Pregnant women are the top risk group.  If you can get an immunization, I would.

  • our friend from Israel had it. She was visiting us 2 weeks ago. She had it about 1.5 months ago. She works for an Israeli airline as a flight attendant. She was in Brasil when she got sick. The dr. there just told her she had some virus and she was ok to work when she was better.

She did not even know she had it until a week after she came home. Her mom has a blood condition, she can get sick easily, so mom's doctor asked our friend to go for a blood test and then it came back positive for H1N1 four days later, but it was 1.5 weeks after she had it.

She said it was really bad, very high fever for about 3 days....   but she was also away with no-one around to even bring her some water....

  • DH's coworker - a hospital urology resident had it along with his wife and their two kids.  I'm not sure how they handled it but they were all home for a week with it.

  • I know multiple adults AND children that have had swine flu already....and DH has diagnosed LOTS of swine flu and none of them have been any more sick than the flu normally makes you.  Fever for 2-3 days and flu symptoms for about 5-7 days.

  • My cousin's daughter got it at college, along with a bunch of her friends. She said it wasn't bad-- she's had much worse. A couple of days of fever and body aches and that was about it.

  • I had it in April.  My fever was over 104 and so was dd's .  DD and I slept pretty much all day for 4 or 5 days.  It wasn't that bad for me (it sucked, but what can you do).  DD continued to sleep alot even after the fever broke.  I was about to take her for blood tests when she finally started to liven up.
