Can't spoil a baby?

So, I'm a first time mommy and I don't apologise for snuggling with DD as often as possible.  As is turns out, this is now becoming an issue as during the day she will not nap any where but on my chest. As soon as I put her down she cries out and the nap is over.

I love that she is attached to me and wants me but this can't be good for when I have to go back to work.  How can I break her of this without making her CIO?

  • We started DS in the swing and eventually got him into the crib.

  • First off, she's waaay to young for CIO.  Second, have patience and go slowly.  Try rolling slowly so she is sleeping next to you, pat her bottom or back if she stirs.  If you are trying to get her into the crib, hold her away from your body and jiggle her a bit until she is back asleep, then move slowly into the crib.  Put her bottom down first, jiggle, then her back, then jiggle, then her head, then pull your hands out slowly.

I also found that swaddling DS helped a lot at that age.

  • I found that DD will transition from napping on my chest to napping in the pack 'n' play on her tummy.  The swing sometimes works, too.  I think that part of it is going from the nice warm body-heat to a colder surface.  Maybe wrapping her in a warm blanket or swaddling her would help?
  • I had the same problem.  Honestly, I still do.  But it only happens when I put DS down for a nap.  I have to rock him (otherwise he won't go to sleep) and then I can't put him down.  He doesn't do this w/ anyone else.  If DH puts him down for a nap, he just puts him in the swing and holds his hand and sings to him until he falls asleep.  MIL (who watches him during the day) does the same thing.  He won't do this for me, but then again he won't let anyone else rock him, so I guess I'll take it.  =)
