Tell me about Panko.

Anyone used Panko breadcrumbs?  It seems like I am hearing more and more about this stuff lately.  It's been mentioned on Food Network 3 times in the last couple of weeks.  I was thinking about baking some homemade chicken tenders or breasts using them.

Does anyone have any experience using Panko?  Can you describe it to me a little?  Is it more/less crunchy, flavorful, thick, etc., than regular breadcrumbs?

  • Aaaaaaah, memories of Japan.  LOVE that place.   :)

Panko is crunchier and lighter.  Very yummy.

  • I love panko! ?It is crispier and the crumbs are bigger than typical bread crumbs. ?Definitely give it a try!

  • I have used panko with chicken tenders and fried them in olive oil and they were REALLY good.  I thought it had a great flavor.  Not as healthy as your baking suggestion but really good!

  • Yummmm.  The absolute best meal ever has panko in it.  We were in Vegas and I had avocado stuffed with shrimp, cream sauce and panko on top.  I ate it every chance we got.  I would love to try to make it.  Where do you buy panko?

You can get it in the Asian aisle in any grocery store - Fry's, Safeway and I think even Walmart all carry it.

  • I'm a big fan.  You get a better crunch factor!
