Carson is sick =-(
he popped up with a 103 fever last night before bed and pretty much had a cough all day. went to the pedi today checked him over found nothing just a virus, the cough is all the crap in his nose dripping down his throat.
so here is my question, everytime he gets a high fever he gets "panty" or shallow breathing. when i get the fever down with meds his breathing gets back to normal. the doc did notice that his breathing was a little elevated but wasn't concerned, his lungs and all were clear. Carson was NOT happy to be there, a lot of crying and i could not hear everything or think straight for that matter. do viruses cause this type of breathing? like their little bodies working overtime to fight the virus. he does not have any breathing issues, never has or never had any febrile seizures either. he is eating and drinking fine, wetting diapers and playful when his fever drops down. but the breathing is making me worried. i have a call into the pedi b/c i forgot to ask this question but thought i would ask here too.
Re: question
The same thing happened to DD last weekend. She just woke up with a fever and deep cough on Saturday morning after being totally fine on Friday. So I took her to the walk in clinic. They told me it was a virus and no antibiotics. They said the same thing about drainage making her cough. She played and ate okay. Then Sunday she got much worse, wouldn't eat, fever even on Motrin so I called them back and they called her in an antibiotic.
Well, Tuesday afternoon came and she still wasn't any better after 3 days of antibiotics so I took her back and they said it was broncitis and put her on a steriod and gave her a cough syrup and I think she was finally herself on Saturday.
I know the croup was also going around her daycare so if the fever continues or gets worse you should definitely take him back. Almost all the moms at daycare said the same thing...they had to go to the doctor twice.
