Is there a site that tracks names used so far this year? We were planning on going with Gabriella, but someone posted that that's a trendy name for 2009. Anyone know? I'm trying to avoid over trendy names.
Gabriella has been used for a long time so I dont' think it would be considered trendy. You can go to Baby Name Wizard and it tracks the popularity of the name over time.
I think if you like it you should use it. DH picked our name. He is around zero babies and no clue on whats trendy, yet he picked a very trendy name. I thought it was beautiful so we're using it.
I don't think there is much for 2009 but the SSA lists names for 2008, as well as every year prior, so you can see where it falls by state, as well as nationally and by year.
I'd say Gabriella is in line with a current popular style of girls' names -ultra feminine, ending in A. (Isabella, Sophia, Olivia, Ella, etc.) I still like it though!
I don't think there is a site that tracks trends, but here is a few articles that you might like that talk about baby name trends. If you like the name use it, but I think it's nice to know how it may be percevied over time. Good luck!
Did you have a popular name growing up? That would influence you if you had to be called Lindsay R. or Lindsay H your whole life. I stay clear of top 100 for sure and hope that our child doesn't have to deal with 3 other kids named the same in it's kindergarden class.

Re: Name trends for 2009?
Why not use it? Who cares if people think the name is too trendy. If you like it, then use it.
