what size clothes?

I just washed all the baby clothes and I realized that they all look extremely small (they are mostly size 0-3 months, with some size nb).  If I have an 8 or 9 pound baby and I'm CDing (KL0s and prefolds for the nb stage), what size clothes do I need?  Will he need to go straight into the 3-6 month size to fit over his fluffy bum??  Thanks!!

Re: what size clothes?

  • I might not be all that helpful because we did not start CDing until 12 months, but Justin was 9lbs at birth, and was in NB stuff until he was 6 weeks. He was in 3 or 3-6 until 6 months and some outfits lasted longer. We don't seem to be the norm, but from watching a lot of my friend and family members I think a lot of people get excited about new outfits and such (just my guess) and move up sizes before they need to, and I never let anything get tight on Justin.

  • my baby was almost 9 pounds - NB stuff (depending on the brand) just barely fit at birth and 0-3 mo lasted just a few weeks.  and that was when we used disposable diapers!

  • I have a 9 1/2 lb baby and she fits into nb and 0-3 with her fluffy butt!

  • It completely depends on the brand of clothing. I had mostly Carters brand and they run pretty long (I think) and DD always fit into her corresponding size - nb for the first month, 0-3 until just after 3 months, 3-6 until 6 months, etc. Now with brands like Gerber, forget about it, those run super tiny and I don't think DD would have ever fit into a nb or 0-3 size from them cd's or not.
  • If it helps, DD2 is just under 6 lbs and wearing preemie sized stuff, even with CDs on.

I'm not finding that wearing CDs is making too much of a difference in clothing size.

For DD1, the only time I notice it is with *some* pants, not most.

I would say for 8-9 lbs, newborn stuff should still fit just fine.
